My MFA thesis explores the conceptual representation of Third Culture identifiers’ multicultural cognition through communications design. The fluid and performative self identity constantly forms and reforms in response to the changing expections in a trans-cultural upbringing. In the writing and designing of the thesis book, this fluidity and transition is manifested through two main aspects: first, a bilingual text that is wrtten in both Chinese and English interlacing to form one complete text, and second, a two-color-column system that juxtaposes the main body with its commentaries. The readers of the book cannot escape the physical and contextual gaps necessarily created by design and thereby briefly embodies the cognitive limiality that Third Culture identifiers might experience within their fluid selves.
